GEA fan-coil units – individual solutions for efficient heating, cooling, filtering and ventilation

Quiet and efficient filtering, ventilation, heating and cooling – available as free-standing units for wall or ceiling mounting – draught-free air conditioning at home, in hotels and offices – co-ordination with the GEA MATRIX control system offers additional energy saving potential.

At the ISH 2005 trade fair, GEA Air Treatment presents a few of their Gekos fan-coil units. Together with an oversized operator control unit and our own control system GEA MATRIX, they demonstrate what effective air conditioning looks like from the user viewpoint, both for high-comfort living air-treatment (home, office building or hotel) as well as in commercial surroundings (for instance a restaurant or store premises).

The fan-coil units from GEA Air Treatment are divided into four groups, corresponding to their application area and characteristics: Basic-Geko, Top-Geko, Cassette-Geko and Power-Geko. All components have in common that they heat or cool the room operating in recirculated-air mode and thereby constitute the "front-end" of an economic air conditioning solution.

GEA Basic-Geko: wide selection for Allrounder
The Basic-Geko is available in five different versions that can move between 130 and 1,350 cubic meters of air per hour, and can optionally be fitted with a timelessly elegant trim panel. The unit can both heat and cool. It is available as a two or four conductor system. The former permits either heating or cooling (for instance during seasonal change). With the four conductor system, the user can spontaneously decide which function he requires. The intelligent control system GEA MATRIX prevents the heating and cooling operations from working in opposition to each other and also provides the most suitable of three blower positions so that the direct-driven radial fan functions optimally. Window contacts help to avoid operating the devices by opened windows and unnecessarily wasting energy. The Basic-Geko provides an economical entry-level solution and is suitable, for example, for offices and hotels. Furthermore it serves in the mini air conditioning system GEA Acqua, which can be tailored as room units for smaller professional units and one- family houses. Models for ceiling or between-floor installation or for the installation in parapet enclosures add additional freedom of installation and frees up valuable floor space, an especial advantage for hoteliers and shopkeepers.

Top-Geko: High-tech behind a noble cladding
The popularity of GEA Top-Geko hotel guests at the most distinguished establishment should come as no surprise, since the units work so quietly that they trouble no one's sleep. Like the Basic-Gekos, they provide a pleasant room climate. The deployment and mounting options are comparable to those of the Basic-Geko, but they can also provide air exchange and are available in a larger number of varieties. In contrast to the Basic-Geko, these units furthermore possess adjustable air-exhaust lattices. Optionally, a direct evaporator or two-stage electric heating is available. This allows the realisation of individual solutions for the highest comfort demands, guaranteeing top quality and comfort.

Cassette-Geko creates an excellent working environment
The Cassette-Geko is designed for installation in a suspended ceiling and provides a pleasant climate in offices, common rooms or business establishments. Thanks to their flat and attractive design, they integrate especially well in the surroundings. These units are suitable for installation in grid ceilings as well as in closed ceilings. They are provided with a connection option for primary air. Round heat exchangers guarantee the best possible cooling or heating transmission to the air with this type of construction. Apart from the quiet radial fan, the adjustable air-directing lattice especially ensures that no air draught is created even with high heating or cooling requirements by directing the air stream efficiently into the room. Among the invisible qualities is its capability of distributing air over an external air outlet. Therefore an adjoining room can also be served with a Cassette-Geko.

Power-Gekos: Power for large air volume streams
Power-Gekos are based on a modular device concept and are suitable for mounting between ceilings. They permit high static pressures (such as required by air channels)for the distribution of large air volume streams (up to 2,700 cubic meter per hour free blowing). That these fan-coil units nonetheless can quietly heat, cool and filter, is due to technical optimisations in noise control and the connection potential for a sound absorber. The heat exchanger, which is optimised for low overall height, is responsible for efficiency: it secures the effective transition of heat or cold from water to air.

Interplay of fan-coil units and control
At the GEA Air Treatment trade fair stand, visitors can inspect the control system GEA MATRIX and the way it harmonises with the fan-coil units. On the one hand, the control permits simple operation, while on the other hand assuring an extremely economic operation of the fan-coil units. The experts from GEA Air Treatment demonstrate this on the basis of various fan-coil units. Among these are a Basic-Geko without housing for mounting between ceilings, similar to the way they are often employed in hotels. The exhibition Geko unit shows "what it has inside". A Top-Geko is an illustrative object for units of the premium class. Furthermore GEA presents a Cassette-Geko as well as two Basic-Gekos in combination with the mini air conditioning system GEA-Acqua, which is a low-priced decentralised air conditioning unit for smaller professional quarters or one-family houses.

For pleasant working conditions: the GEA Cassette-Geko. Its well-conceived design permits easy integration in suspended ceilings. A quietly running ventilator and adjustable air-directing lattice provide effective and draught-free room heating or cooling. As shown in the figure, it can optionally serve an external air outlet, and thus for example furnish neighbouring rooms as well.

Cassette-Geko with external air outlet

Allrounder for private buildings, offices, hotels and more: the GEA Basic-Geko can heat and cool. It is available in five capacity ratings and in two power classes. With air volume streams of approximately 130 to 1,350 cubic meters per hour, it is suitable for the most diverse applications.

Basic-Geko

Discreet high performance technology: the GEA Top-Geko. The advantages of these fan-coil units is due not lastly to their flexibility, because as standing, wall or ceiling units, they always find their place. The installation in a parapet enclosure or a suspended ceiling is possible. Furthermore the units feature convincingly quiet operation. Therefore these fan-coil units are at home in the guest rooms of excellent hotels.
