This development now means that GEA CAIRfricostar is now available with the widest portfolio on the European market in dehumidifiers for indoor swimming pools.
GEA CAIRfricostar units have been designed for use in comfortable private swimming pools, hotel pools, as well as public indoor and leisure pool complexes. They operate in recirculated- or mixed-air modes. These units can be ordered with efficient heat-recovery capabilities, with an air-air heat pump, and with a wide selection of accessories. With one single unit, the CAIRfricostar can dehumidify indoor swimming pools with pool surface areas up to 1,000 m². In the »Performance« range, which operates with air velocities of approx. 2 m/s through an inside cross-section, the largest GEA CAIRfricostar model can handle up to approx. 36,000 m³/h of air – and up to approx. 50,000 m³/h (at 3.0 m/s) in the »Standard« range. Under these conditions, the systems achieve dehumidification ratings of approx. 300 kg/h.
The new system structural design now available offers benefits that particularly involve maintenance and hygiene: completely smooth inner surfaces, as well as hinges and turn-latches installed outside the air flow, ensure cleanliness. The panels and the connection elements of the housing components are likewise mounted from the outside. In addition, there are now added possibilities – compared to earlier Fricostar models – of providing empty chambers, doors, and access hatches. This all simplifies inspection and cleaning. As a result, the systems – straight from the manufacturer’s plants – satisfy the most stringent of hygiene standards: as required, for example, in medicinal baths, spa centres, hospitals, and rehabilitation facilities.
GEA CAIRfricostar units are available in various corrosion-protection classes. The standard version is designed for use in normal indoor swimming pools. Models with Corrosion Protection Class 2 also effectively resist air with strong concentrations of chlorine and salt (i.e., up to 3% salt content). They are accordingly well suited for sea-water swimming facilities. In these systems, components in the refrigerant circulation system have been provided with marine paint coating, and the heat exchanger features alodine coating. Version 3 is even better protected. It additionally offers heat exchangers with immersion-bath or Säkatec coating, as well as marine coating for the entire refrigeration system. These protective features allow application in aggressive environments such as in thermal baths, and in facilities with salt content of the air > 3%. In all versions, furthermore, engineering design without cold bridges prevents the formation of condensation and ensures long equipment life cycles.
GEA CAIRfricostar models feature a uniform control system for energy-optimized operations in accordance with the user’s actual requirements. The FSR60 software effectively serves all equipment based on air-handling units. This software is installed in the manufacturer’s plant, and the required settings are made. Placing the control system into operation for the first time is accordingly fast and simple, since only those functions appear on the display that are relevant for the respective model and its uses. The non-volatile control program can be operated in German or English, and can be expanded by adding a third language. In addition, a optional model allows system check from a remote location.
An additional new function is intermittent quiescent operation. This means that the unit switches itself off or on, in a pre-programmed cycle, to effectively perform certain functions: for example, to control relative humidity, save energy, or reduce noise emissions. Free temperature reduction during the night rounds off the scope of system functions. All units in one project can be operated locally or, if required, from a central control point.
The little brother: GEA Fricostar F800
For smaller swimming pools, as typically operated by private owners, GEA Air Treatment also offers a cabinet unit. The GEA Fricostar F800 has been designed for pools with water surface up to 50 m². It is intended to be set up near the pool, or behind a wall in a frost-free machine room. Options include a performance-enhancing pool-water condenser, as well as an additional heating register. The heating register is used in combination with a fresh-air connection, also available as accessory, in order to condition air taken in from the outside to a more pleasant temperature before it reaches the pool area. In addition, accessories are available to operate several F800 devices in a network: for example, for dehumidifying air in large private pools. As part of GEA model upgrading, the proven F800 has been further improved: including enhanced corrosion protection. Alodine coating now protects evaporators, condensers, and the optionally available additional heating register. The special coating on the copper piping of the refrigeration circulation system also effectively prevents corrosion.
